Our dog is starting to wander near the road and Im wondering if an ultrasonic collar with a remote would work?
I need a cost effective way and i found that ultrasonic was cheapest. does it work? I dont want to have to rely on a leash all the time.
I’d suggest a fence or cable run if the dog wanders often and you are able to put one up. The electric collars are very effective if the dog gets the same response every time, but if you are using a remote you may not see the dog wander.
They do make a system that has a radio emmitter that will adjust out to half an acre and if the dog wanders past the radius the collar will go off. This takes time to put out edge flags and train the dog to understand what they mean, and then train the dog to come back in the radius to shut the collar off. My parents needed this for their lab, he would shove past them at the front door and go for a half day run every time he got the chance. I spent one week training him and now he is a yard dog. He doesn’t even try to push out the door anymore, he now knows where his yard ends.
